Using the Polygon tool of Photoshop
Graphic design firm needs not fret over the issues of creating a peppy pentagon or a simple heptagon, for now Photoshop has brought the entire range of shapes at their command, under the watch word polygon tool.
The polygon tool is a part of the vector tools in the Photoshop library that lets graphics designer draw unlimited images and without any loss of quality.
The images can be as complex as an 8-edged star or a jagged cross-section of a hack-saw with many sides but the method using polygon tool is a lot simpler.
How to draw, using polygon tool
Next we make a foray into the method of drawing any arbitrary figure like a star as follows-<ul>
- Click the new layer icon at the layer palette.
- Choose the shape tool and there the polygon tool from the drawing tools.
- After selecting the polygon tool click the arrow from the option bar. This opens the polygons options to custom graphic design by varying its parameters called the custom shape tool.
- Choose the number of sides say 45, shapes say a star and indent by sides by a percentage say 50% and also the color of the picture in the template.
- Select the shape layer.
- Click and drag the figure, this gives the new figure the creative graphic designer is looking forward to.
The above tutorial uses the custom shape tool which is a readymade store house of available shapes like the star, arrows, footprints etc.
Getting more out of polygon tools
This is by no means the end of it, more amazingly
- You can get more such custom shapes installed from the website of a graphic design company.
- You can also design a shape of your own choice using the instructions of the photoshop manuals though this will take a little time and practice.
- you can add frequently used new figures to the Photoshop’s shape library
Thus the polygon tool is a cutting edge over any other contemporary tool known for its comprehensiveness and versatility.

What program would this animation be made in? (link in question)?
Ok so I am using flash to build my personal website. I want to build a jellyfish animation similar to the one in this website: http://www.apparition.com.au/ but I have no idea how they made it.
In flash, it doesn’t let you use envelope transform tool on Bitmaps, so therefore I can’t get the ’swaying’ jellyfish look. To do it in flash it seems that I can only envelope 1 primitive vector shape at a time. Should I just make an animated GIF in photoshop and import it into my flash movie? What would you do and how do you think the designer made the one I linked to above? Keep in mind that it’s for the net so file size needs to be minimal. Thanks for your tips and advice!
So could it be made without Action Script?
definitely compiled in adobe flash. the animation is hard to tell, it could have been done in after effects, photoshop, illustrator and imported into flash for sure. but flash alone could do that relatively easy.
